Peter practised as a chartered accountant until his mid-30’s before switching to law. His practice included specialised advice on accounting standards and corporate taxation.
He now practices as a commercial solicitor in the areas of tax, commercial and corporate law – predominantly for privately owned business interests.
Through his earlier lives as a partner in major accounting and law firms, Peter has had extensive experience with domestic and foreign businesses, both in Western Australia and on the East Coast.
He has also had extensive experience as an external director and currently sits on the boards of a few large proprietary companies. This both allows Peter to participate in the ‘running’ of different businesses and to learn more about related disciplines. He brings the skills from this experience to his legal practice.
Peter’s tax law practice focuses on the capital gains, trusts, corporate (finance, share capital transactions and dividends), tax losses, structuring and foreign tax areas. He also provides (stamp) duty advice.
Peter’s commercial practice is predominantly in the mergers and acquisition area. His background allows him to understand issues in accounting (including accounting standards), law and tax issues. This broad combination of skills and his general commercial experience is the ideal background for managing merger and acquisition assignments working with specialised advisors.
In addition to servicing a broad range of commercial clients, Peter acts for a number of accounting firms and through them their clients. This latter service covers both specialised taxation opinions as well as advice on and documentation of partnerships, trusts, acquisition and disposal agreements, shareholder agreements and general contract law.
He also provides estate planning advice for more complicated structures and estates.
